My poems come from the fantastically terrible book, MIDNIGHT CROSSROAD, and you can follow my daily updates on my Tumblr. Go to THE POEMING's main page to see what other poets are doing with Harris's books.Samantha Duncanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05000990017922288326noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694783808683709133.post-29234452339002557612020-09-28T21:32:00.008-05:002020-09-28T21:35:05.991-05:00Best of the Net Nominations!Excited to receive two Best of the Net nominations, this year, from the lovely folks at Yes, Poetry and Whale Road Review! I'm excited to share "Perdido Key, Florida, July 2019", which you can read in Issue 19 of the wonderful Whale Road Review. Super thanks to Katie Manning, who is one of the best editors around, for giving this piece a home.
There is a "tip the writer" link under my poem, and I'll be donating any tips I receive to The Okra Project.
First up is my poem, "Still Here," in QUARANZINE: Art in Isolation. This is a very cool zine featuring work from marginalized artists about These Trying Times. Many of them have included their payment app handles, in case you want to throw a couple bucks their way. The poem maybe makes this obvious, but I wrote "Still Here" because I was sick of hearing Corona takes on Love In the Time of Cholera. I thought I'd update here and share what writing I'm up to, in between all the homeschooling, housework, working, and editing side gigs.

I'm co-admin and participant in a special Poetry Month edition of THE POEMING, where a bunch of poets are writing found poems from the novel JURASSIC PARK. It kicked off last week, and I've been sharing poets' contributions over on the main blog. If you want to follow along with my progress, I'll be uploading my daily poems to this tumblr. Check it out! It's interesting to tackle this story about a man-made disaster at this moment in time.

I also started a Tiny Letter, which I've been wanting to do for months. I'd love if you subscribed below and gave me attention. 😜
I feel like I've had a long relationship with this poem, and have worked hard to give it a home, and Kissing Dynamite couldn't be a better fit.
This year, almost sixty writers will use Christopher Pike's fantastically bad 90s novels to make 31 found poems in 31 days. I'm excited to see what everyone makes from these texts!

If you want to check out some of the writers' work throughout the month, I'll be reblogging a few poems a day on THE POEMING's main tumblr. You can also read my daily poems using Pike's The Visitor here.
Really System is a kick-ass journal that published me a while back, and I'm happy to be in their most recent issue again with a new poem called "Hunt Mother." This one's part of a series of remix poems I created using old issues of National Geographic Little Kids Magazine. Hoping to publish more from this group soon! In the meantime, you can read "Hunt Mother" here.

This fabulous list of poems is the result of my month-long stint as Glass Poetry's guest editor for their Poets Resist feature. I was worried I wouldn't get enough submissions, or that I wouldn't get work from more underrepresented writers, but the diversity and quality of the work I received blew me away. This is probably the most fun I've had as an editor, at least in a very long time. You can read these poems here.Samantha Duncanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05000990017922288326noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5694783808683709133.post-51120705525151340432019-01-21T10:18:00.000-06:002019-01-21T10:18:24.483-06:00Poems In FIVE:2:ONE MagazineYou can finally read some of my remix poems from last year's THE POEMING project, thanks to FIVE:2:ONE.

I had a lot of fun writing these poems, during a NaPoWriMo 30/30, several years ago. Stuck with no inspiration, I decided to write poems to/about various female TV characters I'd grown up watching. When I pulled them back out in 2016, I saw so many similar themes running through them - girlhood, feminism, the whiteness of pop culture, womanhood - that turning them into a book seemed like a natural next step.

Whether you're a fan of Doug, Saved By the Bell, Dawson's Creek, Friends, or non-nineties shows like Gilmore Girls and Archer, I think there's something for everyone packed into this book. I extend endless gratitude to Margaret Bashaar and Sarah Reck for turning my work into such a rad-looking book. Hyacinth Girl Press has been taking all my money for years now, and I'm so proud to now have a book in their catalog.
